With a focus on collaborating for action, this mini conference gathers together leaders in the maritime industry with the aim of challenging and inspiring towards a more active handling of the UN sustainability goals.
The event will highlight how Norway works with these challenges, and will explore ideas, create discussions and promote ACTION!
Prior to the conference start at 13.30, we warmly welcome you to join us for light refreshments and mingling from 12.30 in the area directly outside the conference venue in hall A.
The conference will start at 13.30 CET with an opening address by Bjørnar Selnes Skjæran, Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy.
The conference hostis Director General of the NMA, Knut Arild Hareide, who will guide us through the following three sections:
Collaboration and innovation are the most effective ways of accelerating towards a decarbonized future.
This section will use the Norwegian model to highlight how decarbonisation and green shipping is achievable through the key ingredients of active collaboration partnerships (SDG17) and a focus on innovation and technology (SDG9).
This section of the conference will be moderated by Edina Ringdal Wickhold, is a senior advisor at Yara International, where her primary objectives are the transition to clean ammonia, and the opportunities this presents for a carbon-free shipping fuel. This section will include a panel discussion with the following participants:
Although Norway is an international pioneer within gender equality, (SDG5), a mere 15% of management roles in the maritime industry are represented by women.
WISTA Norway has set a goal of achieving «40 by 30», which means that 40% of management positions within the Norwegian maritime sector should be represented by women by 2030.
«Waves of Change» will address what has been achieved and will examine what "actions" actually work, so that Norway can lead the way in improving gender diversity in shipping.
President of WISTA Norway, Siri Sundal Shield will lead this session, which also includes a panel discussion moderated by Christine Korme, Director of Communication at the Norwegian Shipowners Association. The panel members include:
The security picture is continuously changing. The maritime sector is essential for effective world logistics, making it sensitive to political, social and economical changes and decisions, and also exposing it to changing threats.
The industry has always been challenged by piracy, war, sabotage and political instability and in recent years from the increasing threats from cyber attacks in the digital domain.
This section of the conference will shed light on this important and rapidly changing situation and aims to pinpoint changes we need to prepare for.
Nils Haktor Bua is Head of Section for maritime cyber security at the Norwegian Maritime Authority and will lead us through this section, which will include conversations with the following contributors:
