1. Certificates of competency issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority in accordance with regulations II/1, II/2, II/3, III/1, III/2, III/3 and III/6 of STCW-78 and certificates of proficiency issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority in accordance with regulations II/4, II/5, III/4, III/5 or III/7 of STCW-78, conform with the requirements of the STCW-78 Convention including the 2010 Manila amendments.
  2. Certificates of competency issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority in accordance with regulations II/1, II/2, II/3, III/1, III/2, III/3, III/6 and VII/2 of STCW-78 proves that the holder meets the requirements for certificates of proficiency in "basic safety training", "survival craft and rescue boats, with the exclusion of fast rescue boats", "advanced fire fighting", and "medical first aid". Therefore, holders of the mentioned certificates are not required to carry certificates of proficiency covering the competency requirements of chapter VI of STCW-78.
  3. The Norwegian Maritime Authority has assessed the competency tables provided for in the STCW Code prior to issuing Norwegian certificates of competency and certificates of proficiency. Accordingly, there will be no need for further documentation of approved training, including Bridge Resource Management, Engine Room Resource Management, High Voltage, Radar/ARPA, and ECDIS. If a seafarer does not meet the requirements for ARPA, ECDIS or High Voltage, such limitation will be stated on the certificate of competency.
