Investigating committee appointed

The Ministry of Justice and the Police has appointed a special investigating committee after the disaster of Bourbon Dolphin on 12 April 2007. The Commission will investigate whatever they find necessary to get an understanding of the course of events and causal factors in connection with the disaster. The commission will also consider significant circumstances to prevent such a disaster from happening in the future.
The following five people were in today’s cabinet meeting, appointed as members of the investigating committee after the disaster of Bourbon Dolphin:
1. Preciding judge, Inger Lyng, leader of the committee
2. Specialist Engineer, Guro Høyaas Løken
3. General Manager, Gisle Fiksdal
4. Marine coordinator, Dag Andreassen
5. Police solicitor, Yngve Skovly
The special investigating committee has been given the following mandate:
“The investigating committee will carry out the investigations they find necessary to get an understanding of the course of events and causal factors, as well as consider significant circumstances to prevent such a disaster from happening in the future. This work will, among other factors, include the coordination between the ship and the rig, the ship’s operation and circumstances related to the construction and certification of the ship.
Furthermore, the investigating committee will give their evaluation of the attempted salvage operation, during which the ship sank. The commission will also evaluate facts that may be considered to give grounds for criminal liability for individual persons or companies, or other responsibilities with regards to the disaster. The commission has been given a deadline until 1 February 2008 to submit its report.”
